Assessment
In September 2014, the government introduced a new National Curriculum. At the same time, they suggested school’s looked at alternative approaches to assessment and the ways in which schools recorded a child’s attainment. At Newby Primary School, we have worked in faculty group teams to develop a ‘Continuum of Learning’ for Reading, Writing (including GPS) and Maths. This continuum allows us to establish where a child is working in relation to the age related expectations set out in the National Curriculum objectives. Dependent on where a child is working on this continuum they would then be described as beginning, working or secure for each subject in each year group.
Achievement
We are proud that this year, 73% of our Reception pupils achieved the nationally expected ‘Good Level of Development’. 95% of the Year 1 pupils passed the phonics screening test.
At the end of Key Stage 1 (Year 2), the results for reading were 76% compared to 75% nationally; in writing were 62% compared to 69% nationally; and for mathematics were 75% compared to 76% nationally.
