Congratulations and goodbye!
Well done to all the staff and pupils in school. We have ended the year with many academic successes: national average attainment in Reception, significantly above national average in Year 1 phonics, an increase in our Year 2 data and positive progress for our Year 6 pupils in maths and writing. There is some work to be done in reading next year.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our year 6 pupils the very best as they move on to the next stage of their education. Remember to call in and let us know how you are getting on.
We are also saying goodbye to Shazia Asghar, Eleanor Griffiths, Faiza Khokhar and Elaine McDonald. I’d like to thank them for making a difference over their time at Newby
Our school uniform supplier, Academia School wear, will be selling uniform in the Community Room on the following days and times:
– Thursday 29th August, 12-2pm
– Friday 30th August 2-4pm
– Monday 2nd September 12-4pm.
You can also visit their shop or their website to order online at www.academiauniforms.com Call into the school office, or look on our website for more information. Uniform will not be available to buy in school on the first day of term.
In response to requests from parents, Nursery children will have the option of wearing uniform from September.
The working party, comprising staff and governors, met recently to look at the way that Newby will introduce the RSE curriculum in September 2020.
It was decided that the draft policy and thoughts on what will be taught in which year group would be discussed at the Consultation Evening in November 2019. There will then be a further consultation in March 2020 to look at the proposed resources that school would like to use.
Our plan is to work with you at each step to make sure we get our provision right for our children. The working party comprises: Shaista Haider, Nasreen Khan, Ibrahim Maynard and Jackie Walters from the governing body as well as school staff. Please speak to them if you have any questions.
Gulzareen Shehzad Community Award
The governors have awarded the fourth annual award to Zahra Khan in Year 5 for all her work in the local community. The governors were very impressed with her confidence and how well she spoke during her interview. Well done, Zahra!
Thank you to all of you that attended our fourth annual Summer fayre. It was a wonderful afternoon! The sun was shining, there were lots of exciting stalls, activities and games and school raised over £1,000. This money will be spent on further improving the facilities in our Community Room.
Thursday will be my last working day at Newby but it won’t be my last day as part of the BD5 community. Over the last 29 years, I have developed a great many special relationships within West Bowling and together we have all made a real difference to our children. Thank you.
