We know that parents have not had an opportunity to come in to school to look around the classroom so we have put together a short gallery of images which showcase our classroom space.

Scroll down to see highlights of the year as they unfold. The most recent information will be at the top of the page with previous terms further down.

All of our curriculum newsletters can be found here as they are written.

Year 4 - Curriculum Highlights - Autumn Term 2021

This term, our topic has been 'Autocracy, Democracy or Monarchy? Which is best?'

In History we learnt about the Pharoah's of Egypt and how they ruled. We also learnt about the Greek 'Forum' as an early form of Democracy. We thought about the Kingdom of Sparta and how they voted for their Kings. In our wider research we have also found out about the Suffragette movement and how they fought for the vote for women.

In Geography we learnt about the geography of Greece. We thought about how the geography of a place has an impact on how people live and work there.

In Music we listened to 'Zadok the Priest' as it is the music used in coronations. We have talked about the different instruments used as well as how music can make us feel.

In Art we thought about how powerful people in the past left their mark. We looked at famous statues and busts from across the world and across periods of history. We tied this in to our learning about monarchs and created some busts of famous Kings and Queens.

In PSHE we have discussed how to manage conflict or differences and suggested ways of solving issues through negotiation and compromise. We have also looked at the differences between friends and acquaintances.

In Science we learnt about electricity and how different materials can be conductors or insulators.

Year 4 - Trips and Visits - Autumn Term 2021

Year Four have enjoyed a number of trips and experiences this term which have enhanced their learning.

They enjoyed a trip to Bagshaw Museum where they were able to work like archaeologists to uncover facts about the past. They also enjoyed learning about the mummification process and how death masks were used to preserve the face of Pharoahs.

Year Four also enjoyed a virtual visit from Ancient Egyptians who shared lots of facts about what life was like in Ancient Egypt under the rule of the Pharoahs.
